Bed of Roses: A Delicious way to Spice up the Night

Built for Valentine’s mood-setting without leaning too hard into pink and saccharine. The chipotle-strawberry syrup is the move — it keeps things from getting too sweet and adds a little heat to balance the rose vodka.

Ingredients

Cocktail

1.5 oz Ketel One Grapefruit & Rose Vodka
0.5 oz Ferino Amaro Cannella
0.5 oz chipotle-strawberry syrup (below)
0.5 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice
3 dashes Scrappy's Firewater Tincture
1 egg white
Grapefruit zest, for garnish
Frozen strawberries, in place of ice

Chipotle-Strawberry Syrup

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
4–5 sliced strawberries
2 tbsp chipotle pepper flakes

Method

Cook the Syrup

Combine everything in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 15 minutes. For more chipotle bite, let it sit off the heat for an hour before straining into a bottle. Makes about 1 cup. Keeps in the fridge for a couple weeks.
Build the Drink

The egg white froth is the make-or-break here. Two ways to do it: Immersion blender (recommended): Combine everything except the grapefruit zest and frozen strawberries in a tall cylindrical container. Blend until frothy. Cocktail shaker: Dry-shake (no ice) for about 30 seconds to build the froth, then add ice and shake again to chill. Drop frozen strawberries into your glass instead of ice cubes. Pour the cocktail in, zest some grapefruit over the top, and garnish with a rose. Pro tip: leave a short stem on the rose and poke it into one of the strawberries so it doesn't sink.
